Presenter

Joan Kaylor, MSEd, LPC, DCEP (Diplomate in Energy Psychology), and International Certified Master EFT Trainer is an expert in combining CBT with clinical Emotional Freedom Techniques. She is the host of the podcast: EFT Tapping Stories and a speaker whose enthusiasm for her students is well known. Joan has used EFT clinically and has been teaching EFT since 1994. Her passion is to bring these gentle meridian and cognitive-based techniques into mainstream clinical mental health treatment. The research in Clinical Emotional Freedom Techniques continues to grow. EFT has over 50 controlled double-blind studies and over 50 Meta Analyses.

Joan earned her Master of Science in Education degree from the Duquesne University. She earned certification in clinical EFT from the Association in Comprehensive Energy Psychology in 2013 and earned advanced practitioner status from EFT International in 2015 and Master Trainer status June 2023. Joan served on the board of directors of the International OCD Foundation from 1991-1997. She took the first behavior therapy institute in 1996; her more than thirty years of clinical practice includes private practice and using EFT in a not-for-profit community mental health agency in Pittsburgh called South Hills Interfaith Ministries. She speaks nationally and internationally on EFT and presents frequently for Canadian based Moving Forward Family Services, the Pennsylvania Counseling Association, and the Trichotillomania Learning Center Foundation for Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors. She is a sought-after expert in working with anxiety spectrum disorders, obsessive compulsive disorders and body focused repetitive behaviors.

 
 

Course Description

EFT Training Level 1 is designed to help you build your EFT skills to incorporate Tapping into your work with others and yourself.

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is considered a potent, clinically supported intervention that merges modern neuroscience with acupoint stimulation to activate the mind-body connection. Learn the history, foundation, and methods of EFT in this immersive training. Participants in this class can expect to learn in an interactive group setting with ample discussion, hands-on practice, and feedback.

Learning Objectives

  • Apply strategies to help clients overcome self-sabotaging beliefs.
  • Practice bi lateral tapping.
  • Learn the difference between a set up statement and reminder statement and how to apply both.
  • Implement techniques to expand their client base ethically and effectively.
  • Integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) in clinical practice.
  • Describe the historical background of clinical Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT Tapping).
  • Explain the scientific evidence supporting clinical EFT Tapping.
  • Define and explain the fundamental principles of Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), including its development history and theoretical foundation as a cognitive somatic energy modality. 
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the Standard EFT Protocol, including proper tapping point locations, setup statements, reminder phrases, and SUDS intensity measurement. 
  • Identify when and how to apply EFT for various issues including emotional distress, physical complaints, cravings, and mild trauma. 
  •  Recognize the importance of being specific when targeting issues and employ techniques to break down global problems into specific, addressable events. 
  •  Apply appropriate safety measures and techniques when working with potentially traumatic memories, including the Tell the Story and Movie Techniques. 
  • Understand and explain the physiological and neurological mechanisms that make EFT effective, including its impact on the stress response system and emotional regulation.

Origins, Science, Background and Efficacy

  • Understand the history of EFT, what it is and where it originated.
  • Building Bridges to EFT Explain EFT (i.e., “Build bridges” of understanding) to people with various belief systems and backgrounds (e.g., “EFT is like acupuncture without needles”, etc.)

  • Understand the importance of Rapport, what it is and how to begin utilising it effectively in the context of an EFT session
  • Use client’s own exact words in the Standard EFT Protocol and understand the importance of working with client’s subjective experience at all times.

Day 2

  • When EFT Doesn’t Work Troubleshoot when EFT doesn’t appear to be working and be able to consider (and explore) options to potentially remedy the situation

  • The Importance of Being Specific Understand the critical importance of dividing a problem into pieces (Aspects) and getting as specific as possible, and how sometimes you need to start globally (or generally) in order to get more specific.

Satisfactory Completion
Participants must have paid tuition fee, signed in, attended the entire seminar, completed an evaluation, and signed out in order to receive a certificate. Failure to sign in or out will result in forfeiture of credit for the entire course. No exceptions will be made. Partial credit is not available. Certificates available after satisfactory course completion at credits.education
