Jonathan Schwartz is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Eugene, Oregon. With over two decades of experience in the mental health field, Jonathan has held numerous roles. As a Freelance Examiner since 2018, he has conducted Civil Commitment hearings across multiple counties in Oregon. Previously, he served as a Clinical Supervisor and Program Manager at Whitebird Clinic, overseeing the Counseling Department from 2016 to 2018.
Jonathan's extensive background includes his tenure as a Mental Health Specialist at Lane County Behavioral Health from 2005 to 2016, where he managed a large caseload of clients with severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI). He played a pivotal role in creating and implementing Lane County's Aid and Assist program and helped establish a residential treatment facility for these clients. His work also involved serving as the Mental Health Court Liaison and providing backup support to Civil Commitment and PSRB teams.
Earlier in his career, Jonathan worked as an Inpatient Social Worker at Lane County Psychiatric Hospital, part of a multidisciplinary team providing psychiatric care and rehabilitation to inmates. When the hospital closed, he was instrumental in starting the Transition Team, which remains a key component of Peace Health's Outpatient Behavioral Health program.
Jonathan began his professional journey as a Health Officer with the Ramsey County Mental Health Crisis Team, where he provided crisis intervention and worked closely with law enforcement to manage psychiatric admissions.
Jonathan holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Minnesota and a BA in Psychology from the University of Oregon. He is certified by the Oregon Health Authority and has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 2001. In addition to his professional roles, Jonathan is committed to community service, he co-facilitated a support group for adults with blood cancers for the Lymphoma & Leukemia Society, and served as a Court Certified Special Advocate for Children in the foster care system. He has also contributed significantly to the Whitebird Clinic through various leadership roles on its Board of Directors and participated in the Eugene Police Department's Critical Incident Training Program.
